MaJaColloquium mit Dr. Sharon Omotoso (Marie Jahoda Fellow 2026): Decolonisation in Gender Studies: The Pluriverse of things

For the last MaJaColloquium this summer term, we welcome our Marie-Jahoda-Fellow 2026 Dr. Sharon Omotoso.
Her lecture is titled Decolonisation in Gender Studies: The Pluriverse of things.

Beyond concerns about women’s rights, Gender studies across Africa focuses on power, identities, and social roles, often viewed through a traditional lens and a fluid mix of pre-colonial legacies, colonial impositions, and contemporary resistance. With its vibrancy, and complexity traceable to intersections of deep-seated traditions, colonial history, and modern advocacy, decolonisation establishes a delicate balance of acknowledging.
