
We are very much looking forward to welcome Dr Sharon Omotoso as our Marie Jahoda Fellow at the Ruhr University Bochum in the summer term 26.
Sharon Omotoso is an Associate Professor at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan in Nigeria, where she teaches on the Gender Studies Program. She headed the institute’s Women’s Research and Documentation Center (WORDOC) until her recent appointment as pioneer Director of the newly launched International Media and Information Literacy Institute (under the auspices of UNESCO). Sharon is also a Research Associate with University of Johannesburg, South Africa, and a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
Her works integrate the transdisciplinary fields of Gender Studies into African politics, Political Communication and Higher Education Leadership. On these, she serves on editorial boards of scholarly journals including Feminist Africa, Communication, Culture and Critique, and Critical Studies in Media Communication. Sharon consults for international agencies including UNESCO, UN Women, NATO STRATCOM COE.
She sits on the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) Higher Education Taskforce working group focusing on Access and Inclusion. As a multiple grant winner, Sharon Omotoso develops new innovative concepts that contribute to debates for scholarship, activism and policy engagement.

Sharon Omotoso will give a public lecture on 1 July 2026 at 6:15 pm within the context of the MaJaC Colloquium. The title of the lecture is Decolonisation in Gender Studies: The Pluriverse of things.
